More than ever, wholesome pleasure brings together paintings and sculpture whose familiar motifs remain deliberately unstable. Cats, flowers, a skull, and a swan appear with the immediacy of emblems, yet changes in color, surface, and scale keep each image from settling into illustration.
The exhibition treats pleasure as both an attraction and a problem. Sentimental and decorative forms are neither rejected nor accepted at face value; they become structures through which desire, taste, and unease can occupy the same object.
