a featureless protagonist

a native fear…a featureless protagonist brings together painting, sculpture, sound, and installation around conditions of economic and psychological precarity. Money, work, housing, credit, and social exchange appear less as subjects than as systems quietly organizing everyday experience.

Figures and objects emerge without resolving into fixed narratives, while familiar structures of value and exchange become increasingly abstract. The distance between material experience and the systems governing it begins to collapse: economic conditions become psychological, and seemingly private anxieties reveal collective origins.

The exhibition’s title describes this condition through an absence. Fear is immediate and embodied, while its protagonist remains featureless—its causes dispersed across structures too ordinary and pervasive to appear as singular threats. Authority is encountered indirectly through transactions, expectations, interfaces, and the pressure to remain functional within them.

Rather than resolve these conditions into critique or narrative, the exhibition considers consciousness as something formed within systems it cannot fully perceive: an interior life shaped by forces that feel personal even when their origins lie elsewhere.
